Harwinton Consolidated School

My son has been in this school for 2 years now. The teachers he has had so far have been very open for communicating with me and let me know if and when there is a problem. They sat and worked with him with his handwriting and He is getting better each day. He has come home everyday with a smile on his face.

They are rushing through the Common Core and it is stressing my daughter out horribly. She developed a math phobia at the end of 2nd grade.. Harrwinton is a community largely comprised of upwardly mobile, educated, monied parents, with smart kids who would likely do well no matter where they attended school. If you or your child don't fit that mold watch out! My daughter's experience has been poor. She is stressed and believes she is "not smart", which is not true and is also unfortunate because early messages like that, tend to "stay" with us and influence our later choices in education and in life.

I am very disappointed in this school and I am thinking about taking both my children out of it and putting them somewhere else. The teachers are rude and don't care about the students at all. They rushed my son through every grade to the point that he is very behind on his reading and now are yelling at me for it. They don't give him the help he needs to succeed treat him like the stupid one in the class. I would not recommend this school to my worst enemy.
