Rham High School

RHAM high school has caring teachers and really prepares the kids for college. It is a common theme that RHAM students have an easy academic transition into even the toughest colleges.

Coming from another school, this school is great. Yes lots of clicks but there is so many there is a place for everyone - even new comers. The teachers really like what they do and seem to want to teach it to us. Like that you can go to other schools for things that aren't here or to get different experiences.

Unfortunately the school as a whole is struggling with major issues. Although the building is new'ish it's in poor condition and not kept up as it should be. There are multiple issues with the construction (like the windows). As other reviewers have noted, although there are some great teachers there are a good number that seem to be counting the days until their retirement (which still could be 20-30 years away). There are not enough AP and Honors classes available. School spirit is high and it's a close knit community. However the athletic department is in need of a full-time AD. A school this size must have a full-time professional administrator. Recent troubles in the athletic programs have highlighted that need. Success in the gym or on the field do not override other major concerns that have been brought up and need to be addressed. The school seems to operate on a shoe string budget and that manifests itself all over the high school experience. Overall the administration needs to work on acting and appearing more professional and realizing that you can't always be the friend of whatever teacher/coach has gotten out of line or parent making some demand.

I graduated from RHAM in 2013; my experience was mixed. Although the facilities are new and top-notch, the quality of teachers and faculty does not always seen to match. Some tenured teachers are notorious for not grading assignments and otherwise "mailing it in," while some more junior teachers are popular among students for their distractibility. The quality of guidance services is also mixed, and support does not always seem available from all guidance or faculty members. The culture of the school is also somewhat socioeconomically divided which leads to it's own set of problems. There are not many opportunities for truly bright, independent minds to succeed and be nurtured at RHAM, though the athletics department is quite good. On a positive note, there are plenty of truly wonderful, quality teachers at RHAM that every student is sure to have the pleasure of learning from. The administration is also very well meaning and does not respond with an iron-fist to discipline problems that arise, but with more constructive, common sense solutions. However, in retrospect, I wish I had attended a magnet school or private school.
