Edgewood has a very diverse and involved community. Teachers and administrators care about the students and work hard with the very limited resources that come with a city school. The family atmosphere is priceless, giving it massive potential if more funding was available for academic support and teacher recruitment/retention.

Edgewood cares so much about their students! Our son had been at a well respected private school in 1st grade, but when we discovered he had some emotional and mental health challenges, the cut him loose. We returned to Edgewood, where he'd gone for K, and the school provided more than a dozen resources to assess, plan for, and execute a full program for him. He is now significantly improved, knows everyone in the school, and loves school again. They've even provided him advanced math training because he and others in his grade have tested at that level. The PTO is also very engaged, with many family events to bring the community together.

I totally regret putting my son in this school! I feel like I've done more than his teacher at this school. I don't know if it's the school or just his teacher but I had to work with him one on one so he wouldn't fall behind. The class/homework was not challenging enough. If you want your child to excell academically this is not the school!

Shame on you Great Schools. Edgewood is a far better school then the suburban school I went to in 1988, which is 7/10. My kids have teachers who care about them and they are learning and thriving. They have an amazing arts program and foster a wonderful diverse community. The Edgewood after school play program is the best!!! If you are considering sending your child to Edgewood or moving to the area, please do. It is a great place to live and send your kids to school. Keep in mind that there is more to a school than test scores and free lunch percentage. Edgewood is actually one of the best schools in New Haven.
