Many students appear to be into social class and act like they support those who are different, but when it comes to actually socializing with others, they make fun of and look down on less privileged students.

The administration of SWHS is extraordinarily separated from students. The school isn't too large but you will still see people who you've never seen before every time you go to the office. I legitimately didn't know who the principal was until 10th grade. I never got in trouble once for anything during my tenure (Class of 2016), but I strongly disliked the actions of the administration. Some highlights were, after school hours, seeing a squad of administrators fast walking through the halls talking about how the kid they were looking for was "awful" and a "bad kid", and burying 3 racism scandals with awful assemblies with unqualified speakers that were confusing and offensive. School choice kids were targeted by administrators. After every race scandal they would be hilariously nice to them for ~one week. All admins are whiteIn addition, curriculum is competitive, excluding and unfocused. One of my best Spanish teachers was let go after not using the ridiculous "test every week" method that forced around 60% of students out of Spanish after it wasn't required anymore. I still cannot speak a lick after taking it for 3 years. Many kids who do well in lower level language classes cheat, especially on homework. Only about 70% kids at this school during my year were accepting of LGTBQ+/ minority students. A solid number of white kids didn't talk to the black kids (especially if they didn't "act white" or were school choice). Subcultures of the school are very accepting and awesome, like the theater/ music departments and some sports teams, but leaving school once I heard 2 white kids calling a black kid "Black bean" deamingly. So not all positive. After the East Hartford Black Face scandal, none of the kids involved understood why they got in trouble, and no one bothered to explain to them what black face was and why they couldn't do it. Same with the anti-Semitism scandal. When a few classmates came out as trans/non cis, a large number of students mocked them behind their backs. The arts programs are cut bit by bit each year, while the sports budget rises.Students can be cliquey, rude, and entitled. This school does have some of the best teachers I could imagine. I wish they could have saved the money from the new football field (an over $1 million project) and done teacher bonuses. They deserve it. Excellent math, history, music teachers especially
