About Downtown Nashville

This district is flanked by the Cumberland river and adjoins the West End and Demonbreun neighborhoods. While not as touristy as some nearby areas, there's plenty to offer, both for locals and tourists, alike. You'll find a mix of skyscrapers, historical buildings, and a few unexpected surprises such as “The Batman Building.” Although officially known as the AT&T Building, this 33 story landmark got its nickname because of the double points at the top. Downtown doesn’t offer much peace and quiet, but life here will definitely put you in the center of action.

Around Downtown Nashville

Downtown defies expectations by offering a wide variety of housing options. You can certainly get the traditional, big city living experience at a high-rise condominium. If you also work Downtown, you may only need to walk a few blocks to get to the office and back. For particularly good views, look along First Ave North, which runs along the Cumberland River. If you're looking for more budget friendly options, check out properties in the southern part of Downtown on Rolling Mill Hill, which features spectacular views of the skyline.

Because real estate is at a premium here, you won't find as many restaurants as you would in other neighborhoods. Fortunately, there are a number of ethnic and Southern food spots an easy drive or bus ride away. Downtown does offer a few places with classic American fare. Where Downtown shines is in its café scene, where you'll find dozens of storefronts, from quaint to pricey, that let you get your caffeine fix a hundred different ways.

During the day, you'll find a mix of people hurrying between landmarks and office buildings or to the Tennessee State Capitol building. Tourists add to the mix, coming to Downtown to take in the sights of Broadway and the world-famous Ryman Auditorium. The Tennessee Performing Arts Center attracts more creative, artistic individuals. Fitness-minded people enjoy jogging alongside the river, and more laid-back residents can relax in Victory Park, which is centrally located near the capitol building.

Downtown's unofficial motto is 'Work Hard, Play Hard,' and that spirit comes out on Friday nights. This neighborhood boasts several long-running and very popular bars and nightclubs, including the Wild Horse Saloon and the Hard Rock Cafe. If you're looking for a more low-key experience, check out BB King's Blues Club. Taxis are plentiful here, so if you need a ride late at night, you won't be waiting long. Finally, if that Friday lands on a holiday, you may catch amazing fireworks displays near the river.

The nineteen-acre Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park really shines in the summer, offering a farmer's market, fountains for the kids to splash in, and live music. Otherwise, head indoors to see what's playing. The Municipal Auditorium features popular musicians and performers. If you're in the mood for live theater, check out the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. There, you can find plays, operas, and Broadway musicals for people of all ages. You can also drop by a nearby neighborhood to see what's going on at Nissan Stadium or Bridgestone Arena.
