Just the best experience we have had with public school.Principal Stroleny runs a tight ship! She's like Mary Poppins. The teachers are wonderful, especially science (Driggs, Vasquez), Language Arts (Vo), Civics (Kelly), and French (Winston). It's a lot of work but the kids learn a ton. Did not see bullying, just lots of very nice, interesting, smart kids.Could not be happier. There is no need for private school when you have access to Carver Middle.
i can't wait to leave this place
This is a very typical public school in Miami Dade County. If you are happy with MDCPS, then you will likely enjoy this school. It is smaller than most schools, and there are better behaved kids, however, the building is run down, the teachers are a mixed bag, and they want no kids who lie outside of the standard kids. They are biased towards kids that come from the language program at Sunset and the only thing "unique" at this school is really the language program. The rest of the subjects are only mediocre -- very typical MDCPS programs. The iPrep Math program is probably the greatest detriment to any child in the public school system -- my son used to love math, but now absolutely hates it thanks to iPrep Math. Also, if you like hearing "well, we are the #1 middle school in FL" thrown at you every time you have to speak with someone, then this is the place you want to be!! On a positive note, at least my kid is not getting mugged at school....
I agree with the person that said that this is the perfect school for people that doesn't have a family life. They give BUSY time consuming homework. That's all. There is not a homework, where they will necessary benefit from It. It seems that they don't teach at school and expect parents to do home school for 4 to 5 hours after they come home. The worst part is that you try to do constructive suggestions to the administration and they get insulted and throw in your face that they are the top school etc. Math is really poor in this school. They need to freshen up their teachers. They look tired and careless. There are not that many options besides having to pay private school and that is why we got stuck here. The reality is that when they kids leave to high school they get to breath more.
