Our family's experience has been a nightmare. This is our community. We love the people that live here and would never have believed what has gone on. Bullying purposefully not documented, medications never being administered or documented, and being told in a recent follow up meeting all of my student's IEP items were being continued, it is a great disappointment and loss of trust in some of the most important people in my child's life.

There are pros and cons to this school. Pros would be the staff are over all nice and the lunch is free. But the cons have more of over powering effect. The cons of this school are; Many to most of the student show no respect to the school leaving it a filthy and disgusting place. there has been instances that there was vomit in the halls a whole day before it got cleaned up, and multiple times of cockroaches just laying around dead. There is a little discipline within the teachers, mainly because some students are uncontrollably out of hand. One of my biggest problems of this school is the 4 block period scheduling. For me, I would rather have 6 to 7 different periods a day. It makes me feel like I have progressed more. There are not many choices for students in the classes thy take. I did not get the classes I needed this year which will cause me to struggle the next 2 years of my schooling. I was hoping to graduate early but this has caused me other wise. all in all, I do not recommend this school and I would prefer something a lot more then what the school is now

Hawthorne High School is a school with a lot of heart. 325 students in grades 6-12 participate in numerous activities--all at one time. Sponsors and coaches try to work around each other's schedules in order for the students to be able to take part in sports, drama, and cheerleading. Last year, the varsity boys; basketball team went to State; while they were working with the drama club to put on the spring musical. Over 100 students acted, sang, and danced in the show. Academically, the students are working harder than ever to keep their grades up. The number of students in AP English went from 6 to 25. The number in honors 9-10 went from 7 to 25. Math scores are up. Teachers are encouraging their students to plan for a college education and to take school more seriously. From all that I am seeing, the students have had a change in attitude and are working harder than ever to maintain a high GPA because they know without the GPA, they will not be allowed to participate in the activities available to them. What Hawthorne needs is more positive role models for the students to follow. Volunteers from Hawthorne are welcome to come help with the drama program.
