My daughter went thru all the Lecanto schools right thru HS graduation. My son will (sadly) start here this fall. There is no strong leadership at this school. The teachers & the district allow favoritism to be the rule of law here. My daughter was an honor role student and yet was denied admittance to several extracurricular programs. Now, I've just learned, Kindergarten sign-ups were 2 weeks ago and I never received any notification. When you call the school your calls are answered by some random nameless, faceless and usually brainless person. They have no answers to any questions and simply shuffle you off to whatever random extension they can think of. The staff at this school are uncaring, unprofessional, impractical and, in most cases, useless. Any issues you have will be referred to the district offices (which can take weeks) rather than handling any complaints or concerns directly. I'm ready to move just avoid dealing with this school again. The teachers don't care because they know there is no accountability for their actions or behaviors, while at the same time they expect perfection from students. They want kids that will march along like "good little soldiers" without a thought on their own. The school motto should be "Think & do as your told, or else...".
I have 2 children that attend LPS. My kids have had excellent teachers in their years at this school. The teachers are knowledgeable, friendly, approachable and , most importantly, truly care about their responsibility as educators.
LPS is a wonderful school, and the only reason we lived in this area. Mrs. A is the most caring staff member, and she really makes our day every day. The administration staff is great as well, especially the head of the special education programs- Barbara Olsen-Fleming. Our son is autistic, and they were wonderful with him. The 3rd grade class has a swimming week which ends in a lunch stop at McDonald's- we didn't feel comfortable allowing our son to swim without us, and the teacher, Ms. Fersaci, was so nice, she brought McDonald's food back for our son so he wouldn't miss out. Our only issue is the parent rarely sees or speaks to the teachers; most communication is through notes, and weekly class news, which we think is just not enough to know how our kids are doing on an everyday basis. We talk to the school monitors more than the teachers. Still, we would recommend this school to everyone.
I am a old student of this school, I am now a Senior at Lecanto High School. I loved my time in Lecanto Primary and think it helped shape me into who I am today. I started the 1st grade there and now I excel above average. I think they worked well with kids that were ahead but did not push them to the extreme. They did well and I admire and thank all of my teachers.
