As a teacher at this school for almost 8 years now I've seen a lot of positive changes. I've seen our ESE population grow at enormous rates due to school choice. The support needed for this area is determined by the District NOT the administration. The teachers at this school work MANY hours after our school day is done and consistently work on the weekends unpaid. Our heart is there for our students and helping them reach their goals. We are now a K-8 school which will prove to be a positive in many ways. Although there are a few negative comments on this site regarding our office staff and administration...those comments are far from the truth and one must place yourself in their shoes. Not all experiences with a school will be the same however there is a need for communication and a need to place yourself in that person's shoes for a day or even a week. I'm also a parent and can see things from both sides...I always teach my students how I would want my children to be taught. A school can only do so much when it comes to more support and retention of a student. Our hands are literally tied with regards to holding a child back in a grade level. There is SO much more involved and ultimately it is the District who will make the final decision. As far as parent involvement....a school has NO control over that. As teachers we BEG for more parent involvement but it falls on deaf ears most of the time. So when choosing a school...don't just look at the negative comments. Look at the school, visit it, speak to the teachers, speak to your community and look at the data...this will tell you how good a school truly is.
