This learning institution is a poor excuse for a leadership academy. Flaunting blazers and ties is but a mere disguise for the demotivated student atmosphere and lackluster academic rigor. With teachers who meltdown in the middle of the year to constantly shifting science teachers that affect the students education, the only respectable educator would be the PE teacher. I heed warning to not fall prey and send your children to this secondary education facility. Kids in this school do not care about their education and do not contribute in the classroom. The few students who do excel in this institute (like I did) are not challenged to their fullest potential and are at a great disadvantage in college. Not only is there no sport teams, but the lack of extracurricular activities is truly terrifying. The recent addition of a few AP classes does not change the value of this school and I can assure parents that this is not the school that will meet you or your childs needs. I merit my post as a student who was unfortunate enough to attend this poor excuse of a school. If you or your child is seeking academic rigor along with an abundance of extracurricular activities in a diverse and safe setting, this is absolutely NOT the place. I would suggest Mast Academy, New World School of the Arts, DASH, and many other excellent nearby high schools.

I believe there are a lot of teachers who care; however, a handful of the bad apples spoil the good ones. Ms. Cabanas in the office is great. She is always willing to assist when I have a question regarding anything non-academic.

Although some of the negative reviews provided would have been considered true in prior years, this school has really earned its title of: academy. Just as when a student transfers schools, Young Men's Prep had its ups and downs, making mistakes, and to make mistakes is human. Young Men's Prep has learned from its mistakes, hence, making it a more suitable learning environment, not only for the students, but for the parents as well. With the addition of new staff and faculty members, such as the lead teacher and activities director, Ms. Orta, this school has become one of the most dedicated, prestigious sixth through twelfth institutions I have ever had the pleasure of attending. When I am grown, I will look back at my time attending Young Men's Prep, fondly remembering how I was shaped into the leader I am today.

This is a great school and it has been a blessing for my son to attend this school. The caring teachers, small class size, motivational speakers, drilling of the principles to success have contributed to my son becoming a great student and leader. There has been a teacher turn over in some areas like science, history and a couple of other subjects. That has been frustrating at times. However, I understand that everyone is not equipped to teach a classroom full of boys. The core group of teachers that were there when my son started are thankfully still there. I would also add that things appear more stable. The principal is receptive to parents and students. He pays attention and acts on concerns in an effort to continue to making improvements at this school. If your child has a hard time balancing his time I would not suggest that he join the band or choir. My son has been very successful in those organizations however it has been a struggle for him to balance. This may not have been the case for others.
