Round Lake Elementary School

My overall experience at Round Lake Charter has been great. The school has worked with me in dealing with my child's behavior issues. He actually looks forward to school each day.

There is a great lack of diversity within this school and I have noticed a lot of boys(seems to be a lot of Hispanics) are being labeled as ADHD and medications are being strongly suggested to control behavior rather than figuring out ways to modify behavior. From some of the stories I hear from multiple parents, the teachers need to be educated more on "cultural sensitivity." Also I believe teachers should understand that parent involvement or lack thereof has a lot to do with how well a child does in the classroom and this should not be blamed on the child or the child's background. Maybe the teachers could take time to assess these issues instead of a one size fits all approach. We as the city of Mount Dora should make it our responsibility with the "village mentality" to push all of our children forward, but it will take a lot of effort. This can only happen with passionate teachers. "Oh passionate teachers, where art thou?"

I currently have a child attending Round Lake and our experience has been great. My son had a difficult time last year behaviorally speaking. I worked closely with the school to apply the right techniques to handle his issues. Coming into this year, the school did a great job matching my child with the right teacher. His grades are excellent and no behavior issues. Based on the teachers and staff, I highly recommend Round Lake.

Round Lake is a fantastic school! I have two children currently attending, and we have been blessed with positive experiences each year. The teachers and staff genuinely care about all of the students, and they invest much of their personal time into ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed. This school is very family-friendly and offers many opportunities for parent involvement. We are very thankful for the opportunity to have our children in such a safe, caring, and academically sound learning environment.
