My son is in the DHH program at Cross Bayou Elementary School. His progress has gone up and down since he started there in Kindergarten. Due to funding, I think we lost some wonderful DHH advocates in the last year and the relocation of the Family Center on Deafness. I wish we, as parents of DHH kids, had more choices as to where our kids can go. His best teacher was his 1st grade teacher, Ms. Fisher. She now teaches Kindergarten. She was truly an advocate for my son! His DHH coordinator, Ms. Cherasaro, is also fabulous. Ms. C has been the constant contact at Cross Bayou when it comes to my son's progress. But, overall -- I'm not sure if they school would rate higher without being associated with the DHH program. I believe that there may be other elementary school closer that are stronger academically.

It's OK Personally ive already saw staff get pretty catty. And like the one poster said the only school for hearing impaired. What does anyone really have to compare it to. I think personally All Children's has a funding and publicity influence and just being the only school for deaf/hearing impaired. Parents are just forced to either go there way or not have there child learn anything at all. Thats just been my experience so far. As a parent they ask your opinion much like all children's. But, when you tell them they cant handle it, and listen, but mostly disregard it. All children's in many ways is like this. Even if they take your suggestion they will only use it to prove you wrong only putting mild effort in to the parents suggestion to disprove there theory and back there opinion and documentation. I told one of staff basically i like 99 of 100 of there suggestions and what i got in return for the one or 2 i asked to go my rout on was? Maybe your child and you are not meant for this program. And that's after 5 and a half month waiting and agreeing with many things except one or 2 that i asked for. just nod like a woman and say yeah at least your kid will learn something. Yep.

If your child is hearing impaired - great! IF NOT, then this school is definitely so - so. School starts at 7:30am to accommodate the hearing program... all the other elementary schools start at 8:30 am. Way too early for the little ones. They dissolved classrooms after the first month and changed children to new teachers with one day notice and my child is in a class with 19 children now. This site says 13 children per teacher. HA "Lunch" starts at 10:30am. The teachers do try but, I am not really happy this school. Maybe it's just the public school system.
