We love lakeview and feel so blessed to have gotten a spot here. It's a small school (about half the size of our zoned elementary and many of the other fundamentals) which we love. Teachers are great, principal is great, and it truly feels like a small loving community. I even love the front desk staff. The PTA is very active!!! This is the wonderful thing about going with a fundamental school, the parental involvement. My children are exposed to so many other culturally diverse children that all come from families that care about them. I volunteer in classes and can attest to the dedication and hard work of the teachers. If your child happens to be a part of the gifted program, this has to be one of the best gifted programs in the county! Mrs. Griffin and Mrs. Joyce (gifted teachers) are encouraging and well versed in gifted education methods. They seem as though they're always keeping up with the latest information and studies in their field. If you're a parent that's looking into entering the magnet/fundamental lottery, here are some things to consider:*Fundamental schools not only give you priority for younger siblings to attend once you're given a spot, but they also guarantee a spot in a fundamental middle school and fundamental high school (which are currently great schools). Magnet schools don't guarantee a spot anywhere for middle school, and it'll come up faster than you think.*Fundamental schools require a lot of parental involvement. Yes, it can be more work for the parents, but this is a pro in my eyes because we're surrounded by families that care enough to put a decent amount of effort in (attending all PTA meetings, signing homework every night, etc). The PTA puts on events and fundraisers that our family enjoys (these are just some points to consider regarding benefits of a fundamental school, the magnets are wonderful also!)

I have two children at Lakeview. This school has an excellent academic program. Our children previously attended a private school , this school is giving them a far superior education to what they were receiving. They are also exposed to a diverse group of families who primary focus is their children. The families and children are wonderful! The teachers leadership and school plans are vigorous. The teachers are dedicated to teaching and enrichment actives, above and beyond what I expected. Very hands-on and great communicators! Our children love being part of "book club" "battle of the books" science activities, etc. and have become very aware of our environment and community and eager to give back to it. The school makes learning fun! Their structure should be duplicated throughout the county.

If you want your child turned into a greedy little materialistic consumer who only looks at accomplishment as a means of getting some piece of tiny plastic junk, then this is a good choice. All learning activities and behavioral expectations are tied to rewards, instilling no real sense of personal accomplishment. My kindergartner knows all the words to Justin Bieber songs, and has spent hours watching "High School Musical," but what is she really learning, besides becoming a good little test taker for the FCAT? I am very disappointed with this curriculum, and culture of the school, and aghast that this is the "best" school in this county system. That being said, there is great parental support, and this is a comparatively "safe" environment with effective anti-bullying efforts.

I just love Lakeview. It is small and family oriented. The teachers and principal really care about their students. There is a real sense of community about the school. The PTA is very active and works hard to support the school while serving as an advocate for the children and providing educational and entertaining programs for the parents. I love all the family get-togethers and am excited my youngest child will be starting there this Fall.
