HVS used to have a great curriculum, and attentive teachers. Now, in middle school, every teacher has an excuse, and have links readily available to send kids to outside online sources to do the work of the teacher. I can send my child to Khan Academy myself and save us both 7 hours. The overall competency of some of the teachers displayed thus far is abhorrent. At this point, if you are considering HVS, I recommend homeschooling yourself since MOST, not all, of the teachers will definitely leave the work up to you. Parents are supposed to be "learning coaches", but I can assure you, you are an unpaid teacher. Not worth it anymore.

The staff have been friendly, but it has been hard to feel a relationship has been established online. Text messaging feels cold and informal. my daughter struggled to stay on pace. Computers systems went down the last week of school and she lost an entire day to submit work without an extension. Glad we tried it out her last semester of 8th grade and NOT in high school. She will be in a regular class this fall!!

My son was signed into a precalculus course for the summer. He was actually two weeks into the course when they withdrew the course without explanation. I had to call around to find out that they decided not to offer offer this course during the summer. It would have been nice if someone had bothered to explain this when he signed up.

We have gone to several traditional public schools with our four children. They have varied from small town school to large, highest rated in the state schools. This school is by far my favorite! You get the best of both worlds - you child will have a diploma and you have teachers there to help your child, yet you get to do this at home and have the flexibility you would get with doing this at home. My son has thrived here. He is very bright and in the subjects he loves he just shoots through - he has even done two full years of science in one year. The teachers are very friendly and really do seem to care about the students! I love HVS!
