It's horrible and my child will be going to a charter school where she can actually be challenged and paid attention to next year as well as be in the gifted classes.

As a teacher at Kimbell, I can say that I was there solely for the kids. There is a lot of things that go on behind the scenes that others do not see. The behavior issues are hardly ever properly addressed. Students who should receive a reprimand for their actions do not receive them. I do not always agree with suspending a student under the age of 12 but if the student is putting harm towards others, then there needs to be a consequence. And repeated offenses should be addressed as such, not just a lecture and get sent back to class. There needs to be MAJOR structure in this school in order for it to function properly and structure is what it lacks. There is not much support from people who are supposed to provide support for teachers. Especially teachers coming into this for the first time, being with this demographic and learning the ways to handle situations with these students. The majority of my students are what kept me there for as long as I could. The majority of the students are there to want to be there. However there are those few students who do not care and when situations arise, those students are not held accountable for their actions and they get away with pretty much everything, no matter what the teacher tries to do. If there was much more structure and support for the teachers at Kimbell, I would have been more than happy to stay. I only hope things get better, because these children especially, deserve a school that actually cares about them as much as the teachers show them.
