Overall, it is an OK school for a student who has a mature attitude, similar to that of an adult. However, these students are still teens and the problems with this school are evidenced by the lackluster GreatSchools ratings in progress, equity overview, and low income. I feel that this is because the teachers and administrators choose not to, or are unable to, care for students in an equitable way. While some advantaged students are able to, for whatever reason, excel academically and are set up for success; sadly, other highly intelligent students with a lot of potential are unable to see their potential and fall to the wayside.

Kelly and Ms. Lawson are rude and tell you anything to get you off the phone. This is not anything close to an A school.

If you have a highly motivated student who is interested in dual enrollment at area colleges, I would advise you not to enroll your child at this school. The current administration has implemented a practice to dissuade QUALIFIED students from pursuing dual enrollment options available under Florida state law in order that the students remain on campus. I've since withdrawn my student who is now able to take the accelerated classes and have the flexibility to remain off-campus thanks to FLVS and the home education program. In conversation with the principal, one would think he wants to bring back the "good old days" of closed campus high school. While I understand the desire for a high school community, the reality is that you cannot force students into a contrived peer community by denying them educational opportunities that include off campus experiences on neighboring college campuses.

Teachers are very engaged. If the student cares about their academics and future academics, the teachers go out of their way to help the students achieve their goals. The principal is extremely hands on. He doesn't play when it comes to the safety and well being of the students and faculty. I have had four children pass through the doors of this school over the past six years and still have two to finish. If you are a parent involved with your children's academics - your child will flourish at this school. If you expect the school to not only educate but motivate and discipline your child - in other words, do your job, then the results will be like any other statistic for such a household. The school has been a great academic experience for my children and they have fond memories of their time at Lake Howell HS
