The year started off a little bumpy, but that’s to be expected with a kindergartner.

Excellent! The school teaches well beyond the standard academic curriculum and is the first STEAM school in Georgia!

We have just finished our last year at HMES. It is still impossible to write this without tears. My kids were there from K through 5th grade. I didn't know what to look for in a school. Based on the scoring of this site, I probably wouldn't have given this school a 2nd look. But it was close and "free." NOW, I know what to look for - a sense of community, commitment to diversity, parent involvement, enthusiastic teachers, mature and passionate staff, a focus on education that includes tests but also PBIL, STEM, Group Work, physical education, Arts and character. I would encourage you to visit before passing over based on the stats on this site. If you are set on a 8 or 9 of 10, you will need a mostly white school with <10% low income. I know because I checked. There is nothing wrong with that, it is just not where I live.
