The school has a great staff, exceptional leadership and values each child with top notch teaching and learning.
Overall, I've been pleased with this school. My son is in 5th grade and has attended since kindergarten. My daughter went through kindergarten and is now in 1st. Depending on which teacher you get, you will have either what you expect or a very challenging curriculum. Several teachers previously taught at higher levels and then come back teaching earlier grades. They expect their students to achieve at higher levels as well. They are pushed hard. I am surprised at the math and history and science they are teaching these little kids these days. It's a struggle without some parental assistance to say the least. But how can you complain that your kids are being pushed beyond standard expectations? Isn't that what good schools do?
My son has been at Magill for 4 years now. He is in the 3rd grade this year. Although school has only been about 5 or 6 weeks now, I'm really happy with his teacher. She is on top if things and very responsive to my sons needs and my questions. Communication is KEY with today's curriculum requirements! However, last school year was a NIGHTMARE!!! His teacher was very nice as a person, BUT she did NOT help my son excel! She was very unorganized and non responsive to my concerns. Getting a report card and seeing a failing grade when I didn't know he was struggling is UNACCEPTABLE!!! I had to call administration and request a meeting. A teacher is everything to a student and I hold Magill at fault. The administration hates the principal and a lot of parents don't care for her either. Ms. Collins does not have a good reputation. She has not affected me at all or my son. Also, the teachers raise their voices too much at the students, even in front of the parents. Especially on car pool line! Just my opinion. Some teachers should not be teachers And some are meant to be teachers. But raising voices should not be allowed except under extreme circumstances.
Excellent schools and great teachers. My two kids enjoy the school a lot. I feel so safe that my kids attend Magill Elementary.
