After such a wonderful few years at the middle school. I've been very disappointed by my daughters freshman year experience at UGHS. Some teachers act as if they could care less about the students or their success. The principal is aloof and the counselors, as others have mentioned only seem to carte about the honors numbers so they push that to keep the school highly rated. It's very disappointing and I now know that I habe to stay on top of them about everything.

Union Grove is a fairly good school. I would say I've had a satisfactory experience with the teachers. There are bound to be bad teachers at every school, but the good teachers definitely outnumber the bad at UGHS. The teachers and administration definitely push you to reach your potential. That being said, I do agree with the other reviews about the counselors not being able to see things from the students' perspectives. They're very nice and pleasant to talk to, but sometimes they try to send you down paths that would overload you and give you a chaotic year. Otherwise, the counselors are great. Some of the principals could be a bit more...cheerful. Otherwise, the administration is wonderful. The school equipment is pretty pitiful. Many of the textbooks are over 10 years old, and some have been around for longer than the school has. The biology, world history, health, and other textbooks are frequently missing pages, covers, or whole chapters because the books are literally falling apart. Having classes in the trailers is fine, except that they are overcrowded. The microwaves in the cafeteria hardly ever work, and it's frustrating when you have to wait in line for 15 minutes waiting to heat up your food because there are two working microwaves for a ton of kids. (Side note: the lunch periods are way too short! 25 minutes is hardly enough time to eat lunch when you spend over half of it just trying to heat up your leftovers.) The sports teams fluctuate. The football team this year isn't too marvelous. However, our softball team and NJROTC program have done wonderfully. It just depends on the year, I suppose. I also noticed some of the other reviews complained about the bathroom policy, but I believe they have tried to remedy that recently. Now you can go to the bathroom as long as it's not in the first or last 15 minutes of class. Overall, UGHS is a pretty decent school. Could be better, could be much worse. Overall, I've been pretty happy with it.

Hidden and blatant racism is more than evident at this school. I was saddened when my daughter came home and said children choose to segregate themselves at lunch (and the principles not addressing this) and racist remarks as well as disparaging treatment from teachers often occur. The fact that this school is 15min from the heart of our diverse city of Atlanta is simply appalling.

just a couple of normal day to day things: - keeps bathrooms locked all day, only unlocked in between classes. WE CANT CONTROL NORMAL BODILY FUNCTIONS??? - use of many trailers which contain roughly 30 students, 30 desks, 30 chairs, all in space that could comfortably fit about 15 people with no equipment. - sexist in terms of dress code BY FAR (females always getting the short end of the stick) - unhappy office staff, especially principals. they never seem positive and it makes you feel like school should be exactly like their facial expressions - teachers are under MUCH stress in terms of what they need to teach us, and the stress easily transfers to us. - councilors don't even try to view anything from a student's point of view. they'll say whatever benefits the school. - If you're not an athlete, do you even go here? - students only care about how rich they're parents are. if you don't have the nicest car or the most expensive clothes, then why even go here?? - DIRTY. chewing tobacco between bleachers... need i say more? we're actually having to move because of how bad the schools are. All henry county schools are pretty much the same anyway.
