Summerour balances the needs of its variety of students, with dedicated teachers for Special Education who get their students involved in campus life, through the range of abilities of students, to the accelerated curriculum for gifted students. The Connections programs, with foreign languages, Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Fine Arts and STEM offerings is wonderful. There are now a bunch of different clubs and sports for students too!

This is the first year of my daughter and I can say that the teachers are excellent. She is in the gift program and she had received all the help she need. The band is phenomenal. The Principal is very accessible and easy to find. I would love more sports programs after school, I am deeply concerned about the insecurity when someone walk in the building . very excited about the new buding for 2015-2016

This is a great school IF your child is in need of remedial or ESL education. If not there are little to no extra curricular activities, clubs, etc outside of soccer and basketball. I have two children in this school one in the gifted program, one in standard classes. Almost all focus at this school is given to improving basic skills and raising performance of lower achieving students. While this is VERY important the average and higher achieving students are assumed to be able to make it and left to their own. Meanwhile they are extremely under served and falling behind. I don't blame the teachers, there are some great ones here In a low income school, it must be assumed that the majority of parents cannot afford nor provide due to being at work, sports, clubs, etc. I went to NY schools where almost every interest had clubs, there was a variety of programs. Here at Summerour, there's soccer and basketball and remedial help. They may no longer be failing the majority of lower performing students but they are certainly failing the rest. My child in gifted who makes A/B's? ZERO communication suggestions etc Child with lower grades/laziness I get reports/discipline info that's it.
