I am on my third child at this school, all have had a great experience and have grown as students and human beings. The leadership from the teachers and the faculty is exceptional.

Burnette Elementary was the home of our worst school experience of all time. Without naming names, my son‘s fifth grade year has left him scarred by his teachers and fully uncertain of his academic capabilities. My child is both ADHD and dyslexic. The two team teachers he had could not even tell me what dyslexia was much less how to support it. They refused to follow his 504 accommodations, and later in the year, actually began reprimanding him for failing to remind them of what his IEP supports were. This only being because I eventually began sending emails upset that his IEP was not being followed. They also marked papers to such a degree that sometimes I could not tell what my child’s original work looked like. They wrote grade comments that hurt my child’s feelings as the comments snubbed the learning disability he had no control over and one they were well aware of. They also graded papers wrong on a weekly basis which had to be sent back for correction and did not consider any “out of the box” answers which could have been considered or at least given some credit (Ex. 2/4 rather than 1/2). My administrator level intervention regarding our experiences only resulted in the principal making excuses for the teacher by saying that she was a single mom and under a lot of stress and a refusal from her to move him to a new class. By the end of the year, neither teacher would acknowledge me in the halls and responded to emails with as little conversation as possible. Please be aware I have recently heard that these two have moved up to the middle school and are now teaching at Hull Middle School 6th grade. You know it’s bad when the school nurse has her child removed from their room! Good luck!

They failed my children and neighbors. Do not recommend. They took them steps back instead of forward.
