Welcome to Wacker Wackos as I like to call them. This school has both good and bad aspects. The good part about this school is that it is small and intimate. On some days it can even feel like a family. The teachers seem to genuinely care for the students and push them to well. The bad part about this school is that there seems to be a disconnection between the administration and the teachers. The teachers tell you one thing and the Principal tells you another. The Principal can also be a tyrant on parents and I've heard on teachers as well. The comment before mine conveniently declares that this new administration fiercely advocates for children. NO, NO, NO! This administration is sneaky, underhanded, and will do anything to look good on paper. For instance, I saw two students beat the daylights out of each other and later found out that neither one was written-up or sent home because it would make the school look bad when researched. Someone told me that there are "inconsistencies" going on in the testing room during state and district mandated testing. Let's just say I have reason to believe this is true. Do your homework. Don't be fooled.

I am so proud of a new administration that fiercely advocates for children. They are committed to shifting the focus from the adults to the children and making sure that all children are challenged and that all staff is accountable for engaging students with a rigorous curriculum. Change doesn't happen overnight, but it is coming... The kids are talented and the staff must remain focused on that. Average is not good enough anymore! Kudos to all who believe in what those kids can do and kudos to ateam that willnot settle for less! It is a gem of a school with a highly focused and driven leader who recognizes talented teachers and ensures that all students think critically, learn academic behaviors and envision post secondary success. The work is rigorous and challenging and the environment is of high expectation. They are a school to watch !!!

I have been a Wacker parent since 1999 and I have seen the pot holes, hiccups and growth. Wacker is a gem of a school and my children are well prepared with high literacy and math comprehension scores. (I have 2 accepted into IB programs and selective enrollment High Schools) As a parent my children have seen me partner with their teachers and administration, and this teaches them to advocate for themselves and to ask for what you need. No one can do this alone! - Bravo Wacker, for focusing on rigorous instruction and not catering to teachers and parents but instead trying to provide all who are invested in the process of educating children with the tools to be successful. You had us at HELLO... small school!!!

Wacker was such a disappointment. Transferred my child 2010, transferred out 2011. No clear vision from administration. Does not promote parent involvement. Administration lacks at following procedure. Submitted formal complaints to get compliance. Administration does follow-up or communicate well. Couldn't take dealing with incompetent individuals in the Administration. Good luck and proceed with caution as I would NOT recommend transferring your child to this school.
