H-F is a wonderful school. Great teachers that prepare you for college and great students. They have an amazing Fine Arts & STEM program and 100s of clubs and extracurricular activities.

The "H-F Experience" did not live up to what I had hoped for my kids, after putting them through Flossmoor schools for almost 10 years. There is plenty of blame to go around, Parker Jr High was ridiculously unacceptable when it came to High School Readiness and at PJHS there was absolutely no consequences for your actions. I thought that if my kids could tough it out there HF would be different, sadly it wasn't and I realized I forced my kids to go to a dangerous environment for years. And being a black person in Homewood Flossmoor community I can assure you the community is divided too. The entire town including the high-school prides themselves on "diversity" however diversity is not an 70% black high school. All the white people think they're saints for living in this "diverse community" but there are very few other races there besides the huge percentage of black people and small percentage of white people. The parents all fight against each other on social media about local issues and somehow it always ends up black against white no matter what the issue is. Thanks to a divided community, an increase of crime and violence in the area, failing feeder schools, and poor leadership at HF, the high-school is failing. Of course people will always disagree but there's proof. According to US News they're ranked an astonishingly low ranking of 6,912 of 18,000 which is far too low considering that we were paying over 30k in taxes each year and the general community is middle to upper middle class. It gets worse however when you scroll down on US News ranking to see that only 29% of students met or exceeded mathematics expectations. And only 39% of students met or exceeded reading expectations. What used to be one of the best high schools in the state fails to get even a third of their students to meet general expectations. The school runs off a push pull philosophy claiming that if students push hard enough, the school will pull them forward. This only works for gifted students that are able to push forward, leaving the other students ignored and left behind. They recently approved another multi million dollar project for fine arts. They throw huge amounts of money towards stuff like a renovation of a perfectly fine swimming pool and now a fine arts center, but yet they can't seem to raise the amount of students meeting expectations.

I strongly dislike HF, the students are disruptive and there are a lot of fights at this school. It is unsafe now and school staff just blows it off as if there is no problem to maintain the schools reputation in the south suburbs.
