I really like Old Quarry, but this is still my first year. The students are alright and the staff is helpful and kind. It isn't very diverse though. Most of the student body is white, but most kids aren't racist as far as I've seen. I'm white but I haven't witnessed any racism.

I don’t know, honestly. I loved most of my teachers, the social workers were the most amazing people in the world. The homework load was INSANE though. At the end of the year is the worst. Some teachers like to cram in 4 months worth of work into a two week period, and you lose MASSIVE points if you don’t turn one assignment in on time. Personally, I liked this school, but some things can be changed.

I have 2 students that graduated from OQMS the last one this year. When my students started at the school, there were a few small incidents concerning race over the years that we discussed at home and allowed our students to work through on their own and thought things were going ok. Well this year we found out that our last student had been bullied, teased and disrespected by a few students because of his ethnicity, we are Black. When this was brought to our attention we immediately addressed it with the newly installed principal Mr. Billingsley who was very helpful and understanding. Mr. Billingsley was appalled and disgusted especially when he heard that my student was called the n-word during an assembly. He had heard of other incidents not only with my student but other students of color and we are so grateful to those students who spoke out against those who were involved. Mr. Billingsley was very proactive in speaking with the students, parents and implementing programs to combat racism in his building. My student received a excellent education from OQMS and made a few good friends. We have taught our children that they must be positive, contributing and kind in spite of the ignorance in this world and as Christ-like as possible. And the kicker is that my students are rule abiding, friendly, great children to be around and always make people laugh.

It is my first year at Old Quarry and it is really fun. All of my teachers are smart and make school interesting. The teachers are fair and are always encouraging us to try harder. The new Principal is awesome and we have new educational field trips. This is why I think Old Quarry is great.
