When we were house shopping, the school district was a major factor in our decision. We had heard good things about Monticello and have not been let down. The office and administrative staff was supportive in helping get all the paper work taken care of and was always friendly in our interactions. My child needs some extra support in the classroom but not enough for an IEP or 504 plan yet. The administration takes the time to think about which children they place with which teacher in order to ensure the best possible learning environment. My child's kindergarten teacher has been amazing. She knows how to handle her class well, is responsive to our concerns, and had handled the "intervention"/guidance from his pediatric specialist appropriately. My only concern is that the occupational therapist has to be shared between all 3 elementary schools, making it harder for all children who might need her time to get her attention. But there's only so much they can do about that. I'm very glad we landed in Monticello and not at our other choice when house hunting as I've heard quite a few horror stories about the administrative staff in that district refusing to supply proper information to their parents. We love Monticello!

My child attended Lincoln school and I found it to be one of the worst schools in the area. The teacher my child had was very inexperienced and after a few months it was obvious the teacher only paid attention to the students who caused the most trouble. The playground is also in bad condition, not only my child but other children we know had serious accidents because the children were playing on unsafe equipment and not being monitored properly. After repeated attempts to try to work with the principal who did not try to work with us at all and only gave excuses, I had to withdraw my child in order to home school because of the poor quality of care and education my child had received.

Terrible school, unprofessional and rude office staff and principle --no respect when dealing with parents, no accountability for children on school grounds during and after school, no air conditioning and only an hour early dismissal for heat (beginning of school year late summer), manner of teaching reading is horrible--goes by the "visual" (looking at pictures in stories) way of learning instead of sounding out letters, etc., etc.

I love this school and this district. I come from a city of about 100,00 plus and when we got married and decided to have children-the Monticello School District was amazing and we moved to Monticello mainly for the school district. We were SO please and every expectation we had was not only met, but exceeded in a lot of ways. Not only did I LOVE Lincoln school almost as much as my child, but I look forward to experiencing the other schools in the district.
