Orland Jr High School

I would steer anyone away from Orland 135 right now. The constant change of leadership (3 superintendents in 5 years), the standards based grading system, and the lack of resources for students who are not in the top 10% or the bottom 10% is appalling. With a surplus of millions of dollars this district operates as if it has no money. Even discouraging teachers from printing anything and insisting everything is done on the iPad.

I would rate this school 70% experience

I have great experience in this school with respect to my daughter who is completing her 8th Grade this year and my son who is in 6th Grade this year.Academics and after school initiative are good. I recommend that the Science teachers and Principal take more initiative towards Science fairs, mathletes, Einstein clubs and encourage more students to become future Engineers. Also making the 7th and 8th Graders Read for 300 minutes as mandatory would improve the student's Reading and writing skills. School can send notes and preparation Instructions to Parents about MAP and PAARC Testing. That would help improve the scores further.Hope there are no swearing in schools and students are taught moral values well and understand that there is Zero Tolerance for Bullying.Both my kids have good friends and love going to school. They like the classes, after school musicals, band, Orchestra and the after school games. They just wish that the school is as big as Century! Overall, it is a great Experience for our kids and us!
