The majority of the homes in these neighborhoods were built throughout the ‘40’s and 50’s, with a few even before 1940. Many homeowners live in the western and central sections of the neighborhood. West Tampa is bordered by the Hillsborough River on the east, I-275 on the south, the Dale Mabry Highway on the west and West Columbus Drive on the north. Most families in West Tampa live north of I-275, east of North Himes Ave and North MacDill Ave.

Most eateries in Tampa Palms are conveniently located along the major roadways, including Kennedy Blvd, I-275, the Dale Mabry Highway and West Columbus Drive. You can viisit the number of full-service restaurants scattered around Main Street and across the Hillsborough River as well. You’ll love the different eateries around Main Street if you enjoy barbeque, Chinese food, Cuban food, Jamaican jerk dishes, Cajun food, or bakeries.

Nearly one-third of the residents in West Tampa are in their 20s and 30s. West Tampa also has a lower rate of married couples and family households in comparison to the rest of the city. The neighborhood is very diverse, and has been since it's incorporation in 1982. There’s a higher ratio of single adults and locals living in West Tampa than in the rest of the city. In addition, the population density here is significantly higher than other parts of Tampa. Just remember, the morning traffic rush is most likely to be backed up on the west side of this neighborhood, surrounding I-275.

Friday nightlife happens near the number of theaters southeast of West Tampa. Local theatre buffs love spending nights at the Muvico Centro Ybor 20, the Tampa Theatre, Falk Theatre, CineBistro at Hyde Park Village or Channelside Cinemas 10, all just a few minutes away. Cap the night off and visit the different nightclubs and bars scattered around Main Street, the Dale Mabry Highway or Kennedy Boulevard.

Two of the largest parks in West Tampa, Al Lopez Park and MacFarlane Park, are located closer to the Dale Mabry Highway. Al Lopez Park has wildlife and a fishing pond on 132 acres of parklands, while MacFarlane Park has a senior center and tennis courts available. Hosting picnics, recreational activities, or outdoor events is popular at many of the other parks situated within the vicinity of the Hillsborough River. You can also enjoy a day shopping at the variety of retailers and storefronts available on nearly every major road in the neighborhood.
