I attended hhs for about 3 years and it was the absolute worst time of my life. My family moved to the area from pikesville & immediately I was bullied for my religion since I am Jewish and there is definitely a racial and alt right approach here. The teachers and sports coaches did absolutely nothing about the bullying and in some cases try to say it was my fault or I was asking for it. The bullying was so unbearable I had to leave a year early because it was non stop even though my parents have met with the staff numerous times to address it but then again this is a community where everyone knows everyone so it’s known the staff grew up and became besties with the families that have lived here for generations and I’m not surprised if they stood up for the bullies. Please parents don’t ever send your children to a school like this at all no matter how good the ratings are that doesn’t tell you how the kids are when it comes to treating other with kindness and respect

I would not personally recommend this school for anyone looking for a well-rounded and accepting education.

Overall our experience has been good, very dedicated and involved teaching staff. I've found the main problem to be the kids themselves, there are long established social groups dating back to pre-K in some circumstances and they are quite unsophisticated and co-dependent socially, outsiders are treated with suspicion and unfriendliness. Encountered the 'mean girl' phenomena here more than ever before and was very disappointed. I imagine for some kids this is pretty harmful over time, but thankfully we have only had to endure 2.5 years before graduation. Have also found this high school to be quite racially segregated. We are white and not from the US originally, but at our Florida school the peer groups were very integrated and quite functional. Have encountered some very 'alt right' attitudes from some kids here, and a general lack of civility in this area. Discovered one mother with a long history in this community and established friendships with other parents had actually sent anonymous hate letters to another mother with a daughter who was a bit of a square peg, the mind boggles........Very much looking forward to graduation and leaving this area for a more forward thinking, positive environment.

Fyi, folks, HHS has been, and is a '10' rated school. Data here (7), simply incorrect. Facts: U.S. News rates HHS #14th in academics in the state, and perennially in the top 10. And the U.S. Dep't of Education just named HHS a Blue Ribbon School. Definition? "...identifies ... schools with high-achieving students in reading and math. Fewer than 8,500 schools nationwide have earned the honor." Also, noteworthy, every elementary school that feeds into HMS is a '9,' with HMS earning a '10.' Clearly, there is a data issue here.
