I am rather dissapointed at the fact that most of my teachers and authorities at North Hunterdon are not open minded towards people who think differently and have different perspectives on their lives. What is more dissapointing, is that the school system focused highly on general education rather than preparing me, as well as other students, for things that I actually wanted to do with my life. Unless students are good athletes or are successful in academic classes, teachers do not take the time to connect with them to be able to relate to their lives.
As a recent graduate I can honestly say my time at North was an overall horrible experience. I come from a low income family and happen to be the black sheep of my peers and don't fit in with many cliques, and as a result many of my peers and even teachers looked down on me and some of my friends for not being as good at them. The teachers could care less about your needs or questions and seem to promote disruptive and childish behavior in class. Unless you are a top academic performer or athlete you don't really get treated with much respect either.
NHHS provided my children with a terrific education and wonderful learning and sports experiences. They made lifelong friends with both other students and teachers. Each child went to high quality colleges and attended graduate school at Johns Hopkins and University of North Carolina before beginning their respective careers. I can not say enough good things about their experiences at NHHS and the Clinton Township School. District.
I honestly hate this school. Although it's safer than a lot of public schools and bullying isn't a huge issue here, it's the teachers that sort of ruined my experience. North has some good teachers- well-educated on their subject matter, know how to teach properly, understanding, and fair. However, a lot of others have a "I'm better than you, and don't forget it" attitude towards students. I've watched classmates being constantly put down by our teachers. These teachers demand respect but do not respect us in return. Many of them do not know how to teach properly, and are very confusing and unsympathetic when a student doesn't understand. Some teachers should be teaching different classes as well in my opinion- for example, it is well known here that Honors history is much harder than AP, due to the different teachers teaching them. The school is also very dirty. Overall, my experience has been one of anxiety, condescending behavior towards students, and filth.
