Truly an experience I am happy to forget. Couldn't agree with the earlier review that mentioned jock culture, which is very present at Markham. Very early on I was picked on at this school for not playing a sport. Many of the kids who used to harass me were from wealthy families, and got along well with all of the teachers. With few exceptions, Markham Place School was an upsetting, stressful, and difficult four years to endure.

My kids got an excellent education and have done well since graduating. The teachers are dedicated and happy to help the parent or child seeking advice. Sports were important to many parents but not to the school itself. There were cliques of kids but usually all got along (it is a small school).

There is a pervasive attitude of elitism and jock worship at this school. Popularity is everything at Markham and this is perpetuated with the jock culture and the male teachers who give an undue amount of attention toward these athletes. The average kid is forgotten here. There is a double standard regarding discipline and bullying. There is a bullying program in place but it is all red tape and a complete joke. There is constant bullying in class and the cafeteria but nothing is ever done to them because the kids have parents in high places. There is an atmosphere of sexual and verbal harassment in the upper grades and the bullying "law" teaches the kids how to manipulate others. Something has to change before the school gets hit with yet another lawsuit.
