I love and miss my high school

We are so excited about all of the changes that have happened at the high school this school year. The school looks better than ever and the administration truly cares about the students and staff. Great place to be!

Perth Amboy HS is not an "ideal" hs at all, but it has produced many successful students. I graduated 2 yrs ago and am attending one of the top colleges in NJ. The community in which the high school is in is an urban community, thus there are a lack of conventional resources (money, books, class size) available at the school. There are always questionable teachers, but the ones I have encountered have made significant use of the resources available to them. It's not an easy job, but success has been a product. The kids live in a poverty stricken neighborhood in which crime rates are higher in comparison with other communities. As teenagers, this influence can be overwhelming but with PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT, this can be overcome. The failing test scores are the result of the lack of resources available (i.e. tutoring time) and the issue with standardized testing. The majority of PA is Hispanic with many being English language learners. These standardized tests are not altered for diff. cultures and languages! All in all, the students of PA face challenges but success is possible with effective use of resources and instruction, parental involvement, & dedication.
