As a parent for 4 terms things has been much better since the new principal is assigned
P.S. 38 the Rosedale School is truly a wonderful school! It is however, truly unfortunate that the influence of politics and stakeholders that have no interest in our children have infiltrated our school system. The administrators, teachers, parent coordinator and staff are truly caring. The Rosedale School has a "private school" like atmosphere in which the children are not numbers and are truly nurtured. The Rosedale school state test scores have improved throughout the years. However, all NYC public schools experienced dramatic declines in test scores based on the fact the the 2013 state exams were based on the Common Core standards that were not taught for the school year 2012-2013. It truly takes a village to raise a child, the responsibility cannot be that of the schools alone! As parents, guardians, and concerned community members we must invest in our children! This includes communicating with teachers and school administration. We must assist our children with homework, and if we are not able to assist, there are so many resources within the school and/or outside the confines of the school that can help our students succeed. Our children need love, and encouragement!
Every year, this school is going downhill. Majority of the teachers in this institution is incapable of teaching our kids. Based on personal experience and consulting with other parents, I have discovered that they too feel the same way. The teachers are not teaching the kids effectively and have not been given the training and resources to teach the new standards. As a result, test scores are dramatically dropping. I recently removed my daughter from this school and enrolled her in Our Lady of Catholic Academy. What a Huge difference! My daughter is happy, comes home with an understanding of what was taught to her, she can work independently on her homework now and is motivated to learn. When a child is confused, they lose interest in learning. Teachers has to know how to deal with their students. You have kids that suffer from anxiety, quick learners, slow learners, disruptive kids,.... Knowing how to psychologically deal with different types of kids is a part of being a great teacher. Majority of parents are single and working; therefore, they depend on teachers to do their part. The quality of education your child receives determines their success in the future. Choose Wise!
