Yorktown High School is an excellent school in many, but not all areas. First up is the science research program. It is one of the best in the state. Seriously. One of our children went to an elite private high school and her school had nothing like what Yorktown has. Sports program are very good, BUT are too much of a focus. Language and humanities are weak.Teachers are generally very good, but YHS is handicapped by being a public school that cannot dismiss ineffective teachers very easily. Administration is too focused on inclusion, safety, and serving the average student. I suppose this makes the state Board of Regents happy. They could give a little more investment in gifted and talented programs. (E.g., when our kid was considering an elite engineering school, our guidance counselor said she never heard of it!)Overall, YHS is a very good school. I just wish they tried a little harder to be a great school, because it could be.

My daughter was bullied during class by an out of control student. Instead of calling a security officer, the teacher did nothing. We had numerous meeting with the school administration who simply did not handled it properly. When it came time for my son to attend high school, he attended Archbishop Stepinac in White Plains. I can't say anything nice about Yorktown High School and I can't say enough nice things about Stepinac.

Yorktown High School used to be a place of joy and fun. Teenagers used to walk through the doors so happy to go to class, have lunch with their friends and then go play sports. Since the school has placed ridiculous rules and regulations kids are rebelling even more. What high schooler wants to go to school 5 minutes late and get detention? They would rather just not go in at all. Well there you go, so now more kids will be missing school. The common core is ridiculous also. Kids are now learning things that they already have, at least for the older grades. Finally some of the authority figures wear such short skirts I don't know how they don't have to go home and change. I am so disappointed with this school and will never let my child walk into this high school.

Yorktown High School is amazing! The faculty is top notch and dedicated to the students. Everyone from teachers to counselors use a team effort to help students. New administration over the past few years has given the district a new, positive look and more consistency. Parents and students can view their teacher grade books online and receive up to date information on a daily basis. Parents love this!
