Hamilton El School

Could use some better tactics on eliminating bullying on the playground.

My two children both love Hamilton. Being a Title 1 school, I was afraid of how that would affect my children, so I got involved. Parent involvement is a priority with the school, which is so good to see. They are have an IPad lab - they are the only elementary school in the district with this. And the principal truly seems to care for each and every student. She is amazing.

Our daughter attended K-2nd at Hamilton. She started off well, but mid way through 1st grade there was a decline in her social behavior. Her grades were never a problem, probably because status quo is good enough there. 2nd grade was horrible, with everything from being punched on the playground (which we were not told by the teacher) to a major depressing out of control classroom. She did not want to go to school anymore and would go to bed crying (which was not like her). We transfered her to Letort Elementary and she blossomed. Now she is passing the state tests with proficient and advanced scores and LOVES going to school again. We had several converences with her teacher at Hamilton and the principal, but nothing was ever solved.

As a student with the AWC and our child entering kindergarten, we have been very impressed with Hamilton. The staff is wonderful. The teachers are great. I have been very impressed with all the resources available to all the children. Parents are encouraged to volunteer and I have always felt very welcome at the school. I would highly reccommend Hamilton. Outstanding Kindergarten teachers!
