My children go to Cheston Elementary and this school is phenomenal in the recent years. They have been doing activities for all grade levels almost monthly, big themed activities like a Circus themed event where they had carnival like games but all the games were math and reading/writing development. They also had a World Tour day, where they got to model amazing costumes from different countries around the world and eat food from around the world as well as getting "passports" stamped when they learned information about different countries. They are doing a great job, have wonderful teachers and many kids excel in this school, even those with behavioral problems. Highly reccommend
Cheston is a wonderful community of learners and leaders serving a very disadvantaged population. The teachers work hard to ensure that students are receiving the best education under the circumstances. While the test scores may not be the highest, these students are learning valuable life skills to prepare them for middle school, high school, and beyond.
They do no care about their african american students and allow them to fall through the cracks. I have been fighting with them all year to actually teach my child the basics only to be told they don't teach certain things. And when asked how do you expect them to be ready for the next grade if you don't teach them how to write, the response was I agree. Teachers don't care about the african american students and are setting them up for a failed future. The statistics on this site prove true based on my experience with the school. They do not give their african american students the tools that they need to succeed. Removing my son from this school and he will not return to this district ever again.
This school has set a strong foundation for my son's love of learning and remaining an honor student throughout Middle School. He remembers his teachers fondly and even has gone back to send notes to his past teachers, to thank them for teaching them when he was little.
