Shawmont School

I am lucky that Shawmont is my neighborhood school. The staff is friendly and there are a lot of great extra curricular programs for the students to participate in.

All three of my children attended this school and overall had an excellent experience. My younger son continues to attend the school and is doing well and most of the teachers are great. The Principal is very involved and easily accessible for any concerns.

There are a few staff members that are awesome, besides that, the majority of the staff has a "I am just hear to get a pay check" attitude. The are irresponsible and reckless, some of the children are disrespectful to other adults/parents. Overall, I believe that only a handful truly care and do their job to the fullest.

We are so happy that our son is at this gem of a neighborhood school. His classroom teacher genuinely cares for her kids; the specials' teachers are equally wonderful. Speaking of specials - we are so pleased with the music program (my 5yo is learning to read music and recently said his favorite thing about Star Wars is the music!); the presence of a full time nurse and wonderful guidance counselor. His time in computer class is encouraging his math skills. The program in place to motivate kindness and healthy school atmosphere is motivating for my son and his peers. The Home and School Association does good work to support the staff and students here as well.
