I enjoyed my time at Solanco, but there were always good and bad things to deal with as I was never an outgoing, popular kid. Solanco isn't terrible and if students put effort into their work, they will get a good education. We had two valedictorians in a row go to MIT and lots of other good schools so you can get a good education at Solanco, but it isn't handed to you. Solanco has a hick school reputation due to its location, but we had a robust arts program during my time and students excelling in all disciplines so it is a misrepresentation to think Solanco=hicks or rednecks. As with everything, you can't make a blanket statement and think it truly applies to every aspect.

Horrible. An absolute waste of four years. I would've been better off taking my chances as a drop-out. In fact a high school diploma from solanco is the equivalent of dropping out in the real world. All the abuse solanco has left on me will affect my life forever. Do your kids the greatest favor and STAY AWAY FROM SOLANCO HIGH SCHOOL.

Go to a school board meeting or two. Quite often included in there are students that do not meet the typical criteria I have grown accustomed to elsewhere. I think it is easy to disparage a school and it's effort when I only see a school as reflective of the community it represents. I disagree with a whole laundry list of things, I could fill a page, but I almost understand when operational realities are juxtaposed against state politics, local and school board prejudice and bias, union demands, nepotism along with an unrealistic evaluation of educational success. Stay on top of your kids, assume responsibilty for their actions and results, but don't necessarily agree to all of the advanced class mandatory req to get into the AP classes. Get involved, ask questions and don't always believe the answers. The school needs to eliminate subjective teacher analysis, drug testing for "co-op" participation, and after middle school they need to do a better job supporting I.T. in an agricultural enviroment. There are not many private options but if you have the where-with-all...that is what I recommend.
