You have lots of options for living arrangements in Petworth, which remains one of the most affordable neighborhoods in the city. The Petworth Metro stop makes it convenient to live here, and beautiful, high-rise apartment complexes have been built just feet away. For families or groups of friends looking to move in together, there's no shortage of bigger houses available to rent or buy. Spacious houses (a rarity in D.C.) are abundant and often have backyards and parking spaces built into the price. Most are within walking distance of a food market or larger grocery store. For transportation, hop on the Petworth Metro or take one of the many buses into town.

Petworth's culinary has blown up in the last couple years with an overwhelming number of new restaurants--none too fancy--opening up shop. Many of the bars are dive-y and quaint with inexpensive prices and good food at a good price. Georgia Avenue is a mélange mecca of Ethiopian, Thai, Italian, French and American cuisines. A few blocks to the east on 14th Street, you can find small dive bars with comfort food, eclectic pupuserias, and authentic Mexican food. There's also lots of coffee shops and bakeries for bookworms on weekends.

There are a lot of young professionals in this neighborhood, so you can expect to see Georgia Avenue bustling in the evenings, runners getting in a good workout on the weekends, and families taking their kids to school during the week. There are elementary, middle, and high schools in Petworth, so there are kids aplenty around here. On Sundays, expect to see big groups of people congregating around town.

Grab dinner and a drink at one of the many unique restaurants in Petworth, several with rooftop patios perfect for people-watching (Check out Homestead's). Treat yourself to Mexican or Ethiopian and enjoy the exotic flavors provided by locals in the community. Go for a walk at sunset in Upshur Park, a beautiful, secluded area full of lush greenery.

Go for a run up Georgia Avenue and admire the beautiful old Victorian homes. Stop on your way back for a strong cup of coffee at Qualia Coffee, one of the city's finest coffee shops. Grab lunch at Chez Billy or Looking Glass Lounge and people-watch while enjoying the area's finest brunch cocktails. If you're feeling outdoorsy, go for a swim in the Upshur outdoor pool or play basketball in the rec center next door. If you have kids, head over to reading hour at the Petworth library. Take advantage of the yoga studios nearby and stretch out your muscles in a relaxing class with your neighbors. Then head to one of the local markets to get what you need for dinner.
