Before anyone decides to post a grammatical message and criticize someone else s penmanship, maybe one should review their own mistakes, and get someone to edit their misspelled comments. With that said..... Students do as well as their parents encourage them to. When a child becomes 14 years old (high school age), their ability to distinguish the right path, the quality and value of the life that they potential would like to make for themselves, that should have been instilled in their upbringing (home.) Teachers teach, enhance, and teach additional skills. Teachers are not God, though some do change minds of a repetitive pattern of dysfunctional lifestyles and skills that were taught, or even perhaps never implanted at home. It disturbs me how we want to point the finger at the teachers, the district, and never ourselves for the choices that we have made and the values we have taught our children. The Calhoun County School district has been rewarded, and recognized for its excellence and achievements. Please lift that up by posting positive comments, instead of what wrong with YOUR child. Support your children and the school district and do not contribute to the problem.

I honestly don't know how or why this school hasn't been completely overhauled. My child was a A-B average student until we moved to this county and was placed in the school system here. I saw previous comments of the grammar used in message contents. Believe me, its used by the teachers there also. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!! I would have never known, if I hadn't witnessed for myself. I watched for a solid year as my child slowly declined in grades. I made numerous attempts to contact teachers with more than half the time no response. I pulled her out this year and she has rebounded. There are no options when it comes to public schools in this county. My advice is to keep searching for a great school district somewhere else.

The district needs to improve the quality of parent/teacher communication by utilizing updated communication devices i.e. the e-mail (which does not always work) and by installing an automated phone system whereby parents can receive information regarding absences, tardies etc. Moreover, teachers should also utilize their web pages to post up-to-date information regarding children's academic progress: i.e. tests, projects, grades. This rural school has overcome great racial and financial challenges in the last decade to achieve some great student results. The appointment of board members who have a vested interest in the schools of Calhoun County has precipitated great academic success. However, the Board needs to appropriate funds that will address the new information technology age.
