There are a number of good teachers, but there have been situations where the students have been left to their own devices, and the results are not good. We are talking about stellar students. One teacher in particular has received accolades from the administration solely based on the teacher's prior work experience, but accolades should be reserved for teachers who DO teach during class time. NOT the teachers who sit in the classroom collecting a salary, and not teaching. This teacher does not teach during class time. In particular, this teacher hands out sheets of paper to students as they walk in, and expects the students to figure out things out on their own without any training. If the students ask questions, they are treated like imbeciles by this teacher. Don't bother with the tutoring session with the teacher since the teacher won't give straight answers, continues to treat the students who ask for help like imbeciles. This teacher has been known to make mistakes in grading tests, but won't correct the grade to reflect the errors. The parents only choice is to pay for outside tutoring, and as you can guess outside tutoring is quite expensive. Forget about approaching this teacher or the administration about what is going on. Several parents have. Nothing will be done. It's not rocket science: you know that this teacher, and a few others are bad apples, GET RID OF THEM!

In response to the Review dated 10/8/2011. I'm not sure what other activities they could offer at Curtis that they don't already. They have sports for both boys and girls including (football, basketball, volleyball, track, cross country, golf, tennis) They also have band, choir, chess club, robotics team, fca, drama club, turning boys to men, girls break-away, cheer-leading, Spanish club, Environmental club, DOLLS, Friends of Rachel, Orchestra, PALS, NJHS, Math and Science Club, Theater, Student Council and possibly others I'm forgetting. Some of these do require approval to get into or grade qualifications but many do not. What are other schools offering? I would be very curious to know. My Daughter loves it here and I think the Teachers do a great job.

Having moved here from another state we were concerned about our Childs transition to the Texas curriculum. I have to say we are thrilled with Curtis. The communication from teachers and staff is top notch. The programs offer a diverse selection so your child can hone their talents or learn something new. The only thing I see missing from Curtis is after school activities. For parents who prefer their child to stay on campus and participate after school, there are few to no options. Note that if you don't live within a two mile radius, no bussing is offered. We are not comfortable with our son walking home across a very busy main road without crossing guards. This has been a challenge for our family with both parents working. Hopefully Curtis will implement more after school options for these formative years of our children's development. After all, this age is when kids start getting into trouble and making foolish decisions in their unsupervised time. Otherwise, we absolutely love this school!
