While there are some teachers that are worth something, most of them rely on packets and an immense amount of homework to teach their students opposed to actually teaching! One of my kids has been having issues with one class that was fairly difficult for her and because it was a class she had a choice of taking, she asked that she be changed to a different class during the second week as a suggestion by the teacher for that class. The counselor told the both of us that the only way she would be allowed to change classes was to FAIL. She's in the top 25% of her class and THEY WANT HER TO FAIL in her senior year. That doesn't sound like a school that is concerned with ensuring that there students are successful. This class wasn't even a required course!! They offer a wide range of electives and dual credit courses. My child chose to enroll in the two-year culinary program through Bowie last year and attended the TCC Southeast Campus for these classes. They bused them to TCC and then bused them back to Bowie after class was over in the evenings. Even if they hadn't bused them, the campus is only about a mile from our home. This year, they moved the courses to the new Dan Dipert Career and Technical Center that was just built. The problem is, they decided not to bus the students home this year. She's already a year into the program and may have to quit the second year because there is no way for her to get home unless we pay an Uber every day, she walks 7 miles back home, or she waits at the center until 8:00 when I can get there to pick her up after work. So, now the one year she had under her belt may all be for naught. This is just setting students up for failure!! In addition, Bowie is far more concerned with disciplining students for the smallest of infractions than focusing on bigger issues or actually teaching. Meanwhile, there are gang fights going on that never seem to have any repercussions for those involved, students skipping and leaving campus when they're not supposed to while security just sits at the edge of the parking lots watching it happen, students being bullied and harassed constantly not only by other students, but by teachers as well! I am simply appalled at what has become of this school.

people should come here in the morning , and in the afternoon at 2:50pm to see how terrible students and parents drive in the parking lot.. there is no direction, no rule, no guideline for traffic flow, and the students are so rude with their driving. I feel like they can hit walking students and other cars easily. If this school can't even manage this dangerous situation in the parking lot , how can they do the other things good for their students in this school ?? I live surround this area, so I have no choices for my kids going to this school, and yes, if I can afford to relocate, I definitely doing that for the sake of my children...

James Bowie High School is an excellent school to attend! The faculty and staff are very attentive and professional. Bowie offers a wide variety of clubs and organizations to the students so they can be more involved with the student body as a whole. Kudos to Bowie High School! I do believe that discipline and lifestyle choices begin at home. Remember, students who attend Bowie High School are a reflection of how they are taught at home. These parents that give this school bad ratings need to take a look in the mirror and think about how they raised their child. With that being said, the teachers MUST become more strict and crack down on the way some of these students behave. It is a shame that teachers are always expected to clean up and reshape what has been destroyed before they came into Bowie. smh
