I strongly recommend Gilbert Elementary School. The PPCD teachers take really proud and GREAT CARE of their students.

Everything is great with the learning. Only complaints with the Gym Teacher.. She seems to be so mean to most of the kids ... My daughter wasn't feeling good one day at school and she was at gym and she was crying cause she wasn't feeling good..she got tired from running, she felt like throwing up and passing out when she told her gym Teacher that she felt sick only for her to start yelling at her and told her to stop being a cry baby.I was never notified nor she was never sent to the office to see the nurse even though she told her she didn't feel good.My daughter was paled and had a high fever she was crying and that's when she told me that her Gym teacher yelled at her for complaining about not feeling good. I ended up taking her to the doctor and my daughter had strep throat thanks to the gym teacher other kids got sick This could have been prevented .:( .. And one big huge issue that this school has its that the majority of the kids have lice and they will not sent kids home for that.. Which it upsets me very much... If They can have a nicer Gym teacher and fix the lice issue I would of given a 5... Other then that the teachers are great teacher they really do teach.!

Our daughter is in 3rd grade now and has been at Gilbert since pre-school. The teachers are great, take care and extra attention with the students that either need extra help, or are G & T.The comment that was previously posted regarding English is over the top. All communication is in English/Spanish on the opposite side. Discipline has never been an issue, as that is a parenting skill, not a school skill.

Gilbert suffers from two major issues which have directly affected the district's rating in the State of Texas. The first issue is that the entire Del Valle School District treats English as a second language. All documentation and communication is at least 50% Spanish. Non-Spanish speaking kids do not get as much attention as others. The second issue is when your child is rewarded or punished during school hours the Parents are not notified. Assistant Principal Dwiggins has told me it is school policy. If your child is bullied by another student, or disciplined you will not be notified about the situation. Most trivial incidents result in the Del Valle equivalent of Detention. You are NOT notified if you child is sent to detention. When I heard that my child was in trouble once and visited the school, the Principal could not even determine what the facts were and had to 'cancel' the discipline. My children have always feared the environment at Gilbert Elementary because they may be reprimanded at any time for something that they know nothing about. I witnessed children that were punched by another student being sent to Detention multiple times.
