My child attended SRE for grades K-2. We had a wonderful experience in grades K and 1, but 2 wasn't as good. My child was having normal issues with friends, a little bullying, and needed some nurturing. Instead, my child was punished for a legitimate but not super serious act of misbehavior by having to report to school early for two days and wiping down all the doorknobs and handles in the school with anti bacterial wipes. The misbehavior had nothing to do with cleanliness or germs, and I wonder what on earth this was supposed to teach him or accomplish. Overall, I do have positive feelings about the school but I felt that my sensitive child was not given the appropriate level of nurturing needed to help through a difficult patch.

Coming from Florida, I was used to having my kids in private schools. Because my daughter had a learning difference, I took her out of a private school here in Austin, and put her into SRE. I was a mazed at how much she improved, and she is now an A/B student at Vandegrift. Because of my positive experience, my son, an Gifted and Talented student was enrolled in SRE & is also thriving.

I had heard and read wonderful things about this school. I'm not sure how the teacher's or classes are because I never got to see inside of a classroom. I attempted to register my nephew in the pre-k program. Since I had heard wonderful things about Steiner Ranch , I was excited to get him enrolled. I am a temporary guardian and didn't qualify to enroll my nephew because the registrar didn't think our legal papers from the state were good enough. I'm sure her qualifications to interpret legal documents was the reason. We qualified for the state lunch program but still not good enough for the registrar of this school, more documents like pay stubs and tax returns were needed. She stated she was doing everything to get us into the school but seemed like she was doing everything to keep us out. I hate to say to but I wondered if race was the question . I'm beyond disappointed in this school district. Do not assume any confidentiality at this school as well. It seemed everyone knew us and we never got past the front door. I've had many years of experience in dealing with school districts and I'm amazed that the principal or assistant principle defer to the clerical administrative staff for decision making. I can only hope this is one misguided employee and not representative of the school. I did some research as well and pre-k programs are funded by the state so I will be making my experience known to them as well.

Steiner Ranch Elementary is an awesome school! We the greatest teachers and best parent involvement I've seen in the 4 elementary schools we have been in (All due to work related moves ;).
