Austin has many teachers with passion! You can tell how much they love their jobs just by seeing the effort they've put into decorating their classrooms.. Last year we had Mrs. Frenzel in 2nd grade at Austin and she was wonderful! She really cared about my sons well being and not just his grades. She's easy to talk to, and the kids adored her because she taught outside of the box and made learning fun. She didn't nitpick the kids about sitting up straight in their chairs as long as they were learning or working. she met with my son twice a day each to day help him individually with math and reading. His DRA score more than tripled during his 2nd grade year! The year before, my student had Mrs. Tribe, and she was great too. She really cared about my son and I could tell she loved him like her own. It's refreshing to find teachers like those I've had at Austin. My daughter is here now as well and I'm already hearing her beg to be put in our favorite teachers' class. Front staff was always nice, but sometimes it's a pain standing in line twice to check out our kids on holiday early checkouts. i tolerate it since its for the safety of the kids. Doors are always locked.

The faculty at this school really communicates very well especially the administration. Some teachers communicate better than others. The administration show they care and I have seen it over the past 4 years my son has attended. They are always available for a phone conference or a sit down whenever I need it. Also, they are very consistent with ensuring I get every detail when something goes wrong with my son. I do trust them and my other children will be attending Austin. Thanks!

Many of the teachers are very rude to the children and parents. The main focus of this school is discipline not education. There is no variety of cafeteria food. One main course or salad and always just fruit for a side. When I was in school we got a main coarse with two sides and a bread.

The criteria is just the basic information to pass the TAKS test. Maybe all the schools are getting this way, but it does not make it right. Teach age-appropriate scholastics and the TAKS should be passed anyway. It just seems to be a lot of focus on bad behavior. I hear the conversations in the office and amongst the teachers (loud enough for students to hear) and it confuses me that they would want to focus so much on the negative. I don't state this because I have a problem child, quite the contrary. I just observe behaviors. The problem children in a few of the classrooms I noticed are outcast. I even found some outcast to the hallway. That teacher should be ashamed. Every child has a right to be educated. If they are a problem, send them to the principle. After eating with my child at the cafeteria, I am embarrassed I fed him school food! They are not served enough variety nor enough food is given in one sitting.
