I attended RTH for 8th and 9th grades from 1960 to 1962. It was a very good school with good athletic programs. Although I do not remember any of the teachers or coaches names, I do remember that the school was a good achool, and that I had a vwry good experience there. I played football and ran track, and lettered (letters had to be earned then) in football. I am one of the original Highlanders!

I have noticed there are no current reviews of this school. So, here is a new one. My oldest daughter is currently in her second year (7th grade) at Hill. She is part of the STEM program. She got into a magnet school but loved this school so much that she declined their offer. She has done remarkably well in her classes which are all Pre AP. She has made many friends and has joined clubs. Her overall experience has been a good one. The school counselor is always very helpful and warm. The office staff are also warm and welcoming. I have been there when the classes are changing to pick up my daughter for doctors appointments and I have never heard the kids being disrespectful or the teachers being rude with the kids. All of my daughters's teachers have been very nice and really work to help the kids be successful. The principal, Ms. Aguilar, has made really great improvements. My youngest daughter has decided she wants to be part of Hill's STEM program as well, choosing to apply there instead of Longfellow. Past reviews may have been bad but this school has come a very long way. Give Ms. Aguliar and the teachers and staff at Hill a real chance before writing them off.

The state that Hill is in now embarrasses those that attended it when it actually was a good school. I attended Hill from 2001-2003. The principal was Rex Cole. He really cared about the students and their academic and professional development; thus making sure a lot of programs such as PSAT and Multimedia classes existed for the students. I was in all of the programs and was really fond of the Multimedia class; in which I was one of the anchors for the morning news show that aired every morning for students to get daily news, historical events, and other information. The teachers were very caring and actually taught when I was there as well, and my classmates were well behaved for their ages. Nowadays, with my sister going there, Hill is a school I would never ever send my child to if I had a kid. The teachers don't care. Mr. Sosa acts nonchalant. And no programs as the ones I mentioned do not exist at the school today. They even had the nerve to sell the equipment the Multimedia class used (keep in mind we had a full studio for live recording), and I have not seen where the money has gone towards. In all, the school shutting down is no surprise to me at all.
