Atwood Mcdonald Elementary School

I moved to the Fort Worth area last year from an excellent school district. I was really concerned about the school system here. The schools in this area had poor ratings on every site I visited; not to mentions all the negative comments left on message boards from former teachers and students. The negativity vastly out weighted the positive. I was very concerned to say the least. Atwood wasn't the poorest rated school however, it was near the bottom. There are pros and cons to every school. I know my kids are smart and I just figured I'd have to be on them even more to stay at the level I know they can achieve. Which can be challenging for a single parent of two and a with full time job and various other responsibilities , that being said this school isn't as bad as I thought or as some commenters portrayed. The staff at Atwood is very good they care about the students an do the best they can to provide a sound education for all the students that attend. I've always believed learning starts at home and it makes the jobs of the teacher easier and only benefits your childs success when you participate in their development. Not every parent believes this and it shows through their childs progression. My experience with the teachers have been outstanding.Some of the staff should exercise more patience when dealing with some misbehaving kids. I've witness some staff yelling or losing their cool to the point they humiliate or belittle a kid to scare them straight. In ways I would not want someone talking my kids. My experience with the main office personnel has been 75% positive. This is why I can't give all 5 stars. Overall its a good school my kids are doing good with the potential to do better. The staff seems to be predominantly black/ african american women which gives my girls positive role models to look up to that looks like them and can relate to their struggle. Having a black panther as a mascot is DOPE. And my kids look forward to going to school everyday. They participate in after school programs and love interacting with all the teachers they see everyday. Good Job!! Atwood MacDonald

The teachers and especially the vice principle are very rude. My baby is in Pre-k and the fact that they want allow you to see you little children to class and releasing them from the very back of the school, in the rain, are very bad ideas. Lead in the water, i could really just go on and on about how bad of a school this is. Because this is the district my child is in and not wanting to make him be the new kid somewhere else I will allow him to finish Pre-k there but next year they will not be seeing my child.

I went to this school from 08-09 and 09-010. My first year from transferring from a previous school had me more advanced than all of the other students... Something must have went wrong with the teachers and the curriculum. Students were not the best. Teachers could have taught better. My old math teacher, Traci Reeve, was amazing. But, I would not recommend this school. Back when I attended this school, there was no morning or afternoon bus transportation.

I just moved into the are and was told to avoid this school, but I disagree this school is fine I don't see any issues my daughter's teacher seems great he correct the children's English language and that's what a teacher should do, he also treats the children as equals not one child is better than the other. So far I am pleased with the school and the teacher and the office and cafeteria staff is very nice and helpful as well! :)
