Poor. Diverse pop, active PTO, excellent violin and art teachers. However, G/T students are often not challenged, the worst behaving students are not disciplined, causing a ripple effect. Parent concerns are swept under the rug. The bathrooms reek. Poor management and leadership.

My daughter started kindergarten at Poe this past year. She wakes up everyday excited to go to school. Her kindergarten teacher challenges the kids and has high expectations for behavior, but is also warm and responsive. Every child enrolled gets to participate in the fine arts program. My daughter especially loves dance, and I have been amazed at what the art teacher can get kindergartners to do. The school became an International Baccalaureate school this year, which encourages kids to be inquirers. The Principle Amerson is very dedicated, and the kids seem to love him. All the parents I've met volunteering have been great, and the PTO is very active. The school is diverse. There are multiple nationalities/ethnicity represented in my daughter's class. We're very happy at this school. Literally our only complaint is the food is terrible. But that is more of an HISD overall problem. Just plan to send your kids lunch.

As an involved grandparent with 45 years in education, with teaching experience in pre-school, elementary, middle and high school as well as college, I am very impressed with everything about Poe Elementary. Students receive attention to their individual academic, social and physical needs from the staff in the front office, the teachers and the principal. This give each student the opportunity to reach their potential

I have 3 girls that attend Poe and we absolutely love it! We had friends that opted for private school but Poe is such a great public school in the heart of Boulevard Oaks that we were compelled to support it. All of our teachers have been fabulous and my children have been academically challenged. The school is rich with culture and diversity. It's a Fine Arts magnet with a top program but my girls have also been learning advanced math and science. The PTO is strong and we have great parents. I could go on and on about our school but you will have to experience it for yourself. Go Poe Ravens!
