Don't send your kid here. The new school and the advanced courses are not worth the trauma and headaches you will get in dealing with the Administrators.

Sterling High School is one the worse schools in HISD.The district thinks by adding new people to the staff this will make a change. This is like putting a bandage on a bullet wound. The staff lacks professoinalism, not all but most. There are a hand full of caring staff members and teachers. They never know whats going on and are not very inviting to the parents,as they claim.I think some of these big people in the district should come down and teacher for awhile and see if they can make a change or create a staff that can and are willing to give great education to our children. This is what the property tax payers expect.Maybe I want feel like my vote for the school bond was all a host.

This school is a gem and the larger community is not aware of it yet. I am a tutor with the HiLZ students (now Futures Academy) at Sterling. My students work with HCC to get an Associate Degree by the time they graduate from high school. My students have set a high standard for themselves and plan on going to a 4-year university after graduation. They are dedicated and diligent to their studies and future. They are all attending summer school at HCC to further their studies and complete the degree program. Sterling also has the HISD magnet program for Aviation Sciences. These kids get to fly planes. This is a neighborhood public high school! I enjoy the students, staff and administration very much. I would recommend this school highly to anyone. I think they have changed significantly in the past 5 or so years but the improvements have not completely made their way out into the larger community yet. But it will!
