I had heard great things about this school. The staff is completely is disorganized. We experienced this from day one at the Meet and Greet. It was stated in the "about us" introduction. That should have been the big clue (the need to state that), it obviously had been an issue in the past. The principal, mentioned she "Prides" herself on how the school has been ran by her the past few years. (As though the faculty had no hand in helping) I believe it's this Pride that prevents her from smiling and greeting parents. We love to see a strong Black female presence but no need to come off as a Dictator. A sense of compassion or retraining on being personable is desperately needed throughout. Need less to say, this was placed to the back of our minds. Collectively, as parents/families, we gave the benefit of the doubt. Two months in now and SSDD. After school pick up wether by Bus or parents is ridiculous. Principal and staff still unapproachable. Most of the teachers, not all, don't know how to use District wide online resources. Again, was there no training for all staff? Our students are starting to feel discouraged in subjects and/or schooling they used to love. Bullying goes on. Shameful comments made by teacher. We voiced to staff they merely say they'll investigate with sides of snide remarks such as "children just like to complain at these ages". We the parents, may not seem to be as educated (not first class citizens and all but we do have people to help us be heard, like now) as those holding the degree;however, we do have common sense enough to know something is not right. We'd like to remain hopeful they get their act together for the kids sake, reflect it as an organization, and academically. Maybe, just maybe, they'll read this and the dimly lit light will brighten.

Whidby Elementary school is a great school. The Teachers and Principle are very good and responsive. They take care of kids in a very good manner and teaching is excellent. My daughter love this school.

The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education. Martin Luther King, Jr. When I reflect on the above quote, Whidby Elementary School comes to mind. Whidby Elementary Magnet School for Leadership in Health Sciences serves as an excellent catalyst for many future, student to adult, success stories. One must understand that an institute of learning, whether on the elementary or post graduate level, must work as a whole. Whidby operates as a whole; starting with leadership. The principal is very caring and is engulfed with making sure that all students are safe, receiving an excellent education in a nurturing and thriving setting AND IS ALWAYS seeking out the latest innovations in education. The administration, teachers, ancillary staff and PTO have the same focus. The office support shares an equal love for the students as well as the parents. I cannot leave out the the cafeteria and custodial staff...THEY ARE AMAZING! My son is a second grader at Whidby and LOVES IT...HE IS EAGER TO GET TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY and has PERFECT ATTENDANCE. I recommend Whidby to EVERY PARENT!
