We moved to Katy Elementary with my youngest child after attending two other KISD schools with my older two children as well as the youngest. We had read great things about Katy Elementary and was very excited that our child was going to be in one of the best, if not the best, elementary school in Katy. Boy, were we disappointed. This has by far been the worst experience of any school we have attended in Katy. From the very first day it has been one problem after the other and Oh, it's all the parent's or student's fault because the teachers take no responsibility for their actions. If there is an event that your child needs special clothing or material for then you should know because they may have sent a note home with your elementary aged child several weeks ago and "its not their fault that your child can't get it to you". They say they "didn't get my email" asking questions but somehow or another they're able to send an email to me saying my child can't participate in an event that I didn't know anything about, because they don't have the proper clothing that I didn't know about because I NEVER GOT THE NOTE!....but that's by 9 year old child's fault not theirs... "they're very busy" they can't be expected to let the parents know everything. Every single teacher we have dealt with there seems to have this "better than you" attitude. If you have the opportunity to take your child to a different elementary school, take it! Unfortunately, we're stuck with these...lovely ladies for another 1 1/2 years.

The teachers are very effective in teaching the kids. Everyone seems to be polite and caring.

My children have attended different KISD schools and KE is by far the smallest and most logistically relaxing. Families and most staff are friendly; parents are very involved, as we're accustomed to. A fine environment, but academically I haven't been impressed. Technology seems minimal. Expectations and definitely the amount of homework went down, but somehow so did my kids' grades. Few seemed to ever be recorded, and we couldn't get a satisfying answer as to why this was, or why they only seemed to be the lower ones. District Level Assessments (DLA's) are recorded at face value as test grades, which I don't believe should be happening. Some of my children's standardized test scores remained well above average, but at the end of the year they received no academic recognition for the first time ever.
